For Immediate Hire

Wood Anchor is currently seeking an Individual for position: Sawyer

Experience is not required.  We will train.  This individual will have some basic mechanical experience for general tasks of Sawmill maintenance i.e. greasing, checking fluid levels and general equipment up keep.  This individual will have a team player mentality and a passion for wood.

Responsibilities include--

  • Sawing recycled timbers and trees on a large circular sawmill
  • Maintaining sawmill --changing and checking fluids, greasing, checking bearings etc
  • Sharpening the blade as required
  • Maintaining auxiliary equipment such as edger, green chain etc (these tasks shared with yard manager)
  • Using a Set Works program to cut material to grade

This person should be --

  • Extremely organized
  • Able to adapt to unique cutting circumstances (crooked trees, nails inside trees etc)
  • A team player
  • Able to identify issue on the mill prior to them becoming a problem
  • A quick learner
  • Passionate about wood and wood recycling
  • Able to switch tasks quickly based on work priorities
  • Self motivated
  • Able to work and adapt in an ever changing field
  • The ability to think quickly
  • Creative - the first step in all of our projects is the sawmill.  How the wood is cut determines the end result of the finished project
  • Polite
  • Honest

We will train the right candidate for this position.  The right candidate will want to make this a career and work with Wood Anchor to further develop wood recycling in Manitoba.  Wage will be based on experience and work ethic.
